What is Laser Digital Converting?

Laser digital converting is the direct high speed laser processing of materials into finished components in a roll or sheet fed basis without the use of hard tooling. This non contact process is an alternative to die cutting where the constraints of die's inhibit the processing of materials because of feature sizes, features to close together, feature or location tolerances, or materials that are hard to process mechanically. LaserSharp® Digital Converting developed by LasX allows for multiple processes to be performed in the same work area, such as through cutting, kiss-cutting, perforating and scoring. Being able to perform all of these processes in the same area eliminates the concern of realignment during a progressive die cutting process. Non-contact processes also takes away the concerns of contaminating the materials during the contact process of mechanical die cutting. Design for manufacturing - the ability of processing using LaserSharp® Digital Converting allows for the design of micro features into your sub-components whether it is a single layer or subassembly to be integrated into the final test device. Because of the speed of laser digital converting it allows for cost effective manufacturing of high volume production.
