Job Title:          Process Engineer
Department:    Research & Development
Reports To:      R&D Manager

Position Summary:
The position of Process Engineer will provide problem solving, applied research, and technical leadership in support of new and existing laser processes and equipment.  As a Process Engineer you will be responsible for providing leadership and insight into the development of new manufacturing processes and equipment.  In addition, as a Process Engineer you will be responsible for originating and ensuring that manufacturing processes and equipment are developed, implemented, and validated throughout the development cycle.  You will also be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing activities to ensure that process and product knowledge are transferred successfully from development to manufacturing.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Understanding and applying engineering tools such as: design of experiments (DOE), statistical techniques (Cpk, control charts), Gage R&R.
  • Understanding material interactions with different lasers such as: UV, Nd: YAG, Fiber and CO2.
  • Understanding Gaussian beam propagation concepts
  • Support the LasX Quality Management System
  • Aid in the development of laser processing equipment
  • Lead development of new laser processes
  • Aid in improving existing laser processes
  • Support sales staff in new and existing account development
  • Work closely with engineering staff in designing, maintaining, and improving laser processing equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Material Engineering, Physics or related field.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Office package
  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills
  • Self driven and motivated
  • Work well in both a team environment and as an individual
  • 0-3 years experience in an industrial setting

Other Desired Skills:

  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Minitab.
  • Knowledge in web based processing

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing and walking on concrete floors in a manufacturing environment
  • Extensive use of telephone and computer in an office environment
  • Some customer and trade show travel required.  Limited overnight travel.
