Direct-to-package marking · Rigid packs
MarkLine™
MarkLine™ is the LasX machine for direct-to-package marking on bottles, caps and other rigid packs — no ink, no label, no consumable in the marking step. Packs convey past a bank of LaserSharp® modules, single-sided or in 360° rotation, so date and lot codes, serialized or covert security marks, embellishment and full label-replacement graphics become part of the package rather than something applied to it.
Features on a web — scoring, perforating, contour cutting, foil — run on FocusPro™, FoilPro™, MicroLam™ or SmartFinish™. A LaserSharp® module in a line that already has its own conveyance is the LaserSharp® LPM. More than 16 modules is quoted as custom equipment.

Specifications
| Object handling | Rigid-object conveyance — single-sided or 360° rotation |
|---|---|
| Line integration | In-line on your filling or packing line as standard; standalone cell configured to order |
| Lanes | SingleLane, DualLane, or MultiLane (three or more lanes) |
| Mark type | Inkless, direct-to-package; durability verified on your package |
| Content | Fully variable, unit-levelDate/lot, serialization, covert security marks, embellishment, label-replacement graphics. |
| Laser modules | One to 16 modulesModule count scaled to line rate and mark area; sixteen modules on one machine is the largest configuration in production. More than 16 is custom. |
| Laser source | Matched to the substrate — UV, green, NIR, or CO₂ |
| Substrates | Polyolefins (HDPE, PP, PE); PET and other polyesters; specialty, barrier and coated plastics; others once qualified in PhotonX |
| Mark area and resolution | Set by the application — confirmed on your package in PhotonX |
| Proven rates | About 300 bottles a minute with variable graphics; about 550 caps a minuteProven applications. Rate depends on the configuration, the pack and the artwork; it is not a guaranteed rate for every pack. |
| Control | Proton λ process controller with LightGuide® interface, included on every MarkLine™ |
| Design life | 15+ years |
Configure-to-order
- Module count and laser source per substrate
- Standalone cell
- Cleanroom configuration
- µVerify™ — in-line inspection that measures feature size and position and feeds closed-loop control of the laser parameters, plus Pulse beam confirmation. Which features are measured depends on the application.
A mark that is part of the package changes what packaging can be asked to carry — serialized codes, covert brand-protection marks, and full label graphics, without a label to apply or an ink to run out.

Questions buyers ask
What does laser marking replace on a package?
Ink, ribbon, or label in the marking step, and their changeovers. Because nothing is added to the package, the mark is compatible with recyclable mono-material structures. Durability is verified on your package and artwork; extraction filters, optics, and other machine consumables depend on the configuration.
Do we need a trial before a quote?
Yes. Every MarkLine™ quote follows a PhotonX trial on your package and artwork, where durability, contrast and rate are proven before a machine is specified.
Is this proven in production?
LasX and Procter & Gamble launched LaserSharp® Marking on Tide® Ultra OXI Boost, and the program was named Best in Class at the 2026 PAC Global Awards.
Where does the variable data come from?
LightGuide® builds each mark from the job and live data — the date and time, the job name, or a value sent from your line's control system, such as a lot or serial number — so every unit can carry a different code without redrawing the design.
Can it mark curved surfaces?
Yes — 360° rotation handling marks the full circumference of bottles and containers, and single-sided configurations handle flat or gently curved faces inline.
Can LasX mark packs for us?
For PhotonX trials, and as a bridge while your MarkLine™ is built. LasX does not run pack marking as a standing production service.
Is MarkLine™ a new machine?
No. MarkLine™ is the machine platform formerly the LaserSharp® Marking Workstation, renamed in 2026. LaserSharp® Marking remains the name of the process, and LightGuide® the software.
