FocusPro™

FocusPro is the top of the LasX packaging range — a configure-to-order laser converting machine for flexible packaging converters and OEM lines, on webs from a 600 mm mid-web to 1,800 mm. It runs inline at web speeds up to 500 m/min in select applications, with up to eight independently controlled LaserSharp® processing modules, replacing mechanical tooling for easy-open features, breathable perforation, registered scoring, and contour cutting.

Webs to 350 mm run on MicroLam™, and easy-open scoring on a pouch-making machine you already run is the Scoreline™ module. Metal foil webs run on FoilPro™, the foil configuration of the same frame. Webs wider than 1,800 mm are quoted as custom equipment.

What it does on your line

  • Easy-open scoring

    Precision-controlled laser scoring for clean, predictable easy-open performance — through the outer layer, barrier intact, registered to the print.

  • MAP micro-perforation

    High-accuracy micro-hole drilling for modified-atmosphere packaging, down to 50 µm pattern design, so respiration rate is set by the pattern rather than by the film.

  • Controlled venting

    Custom venting patterns for microwave-ready packaging, placed where the pack needs to release steam and nowhere else.

  • Window cutting

    Contour window cutting for product display and viewing, cut digitally so a new window shape does not mean new tooling.

  • OEM and line integration

    Flexible integration options for OEMs and automated production lines — the modules go into the press, laminator or slitter-rewinder you already run.

  • µVerify™ — in-line inspection that measures feature size and position and feeds closed-loop control of the laser parameters, plus Pulse beam confirmation. Which features are measured depends on the application.

FocusPro exists because flexible packaging converters are asked to run more SKUs, in shorter runs, with more functional features — and mechanical tooling does not scale to that.

Every easy-open score, breathable perforation pattern, and registered feature becomes a digital recipe rather than a die. Changeovers happen in software. There is no tooling to order, store, sharpen, or wait for.

Questions buyers ask

Can FocusPro be retrofitted into an existing converting line?

Yes. FocusPro is built around LaserSharp® processing modules, which are designed to integrate into existing presses, laminators, and slitter-rewinders rather than requiring a full line replacement. Integration envelopes and control handshake documentation are available on request.

How does FocusPro relate to FreshFocus?

FocusPro is the successor to the FreshFocus platform and sits at the top of the LasX packaging range. Existing FreshFocus installations continue to be supported under ClearCut®, and upgrade paths are available.

What decides where a machine lands in the range?

Web width, the number of laser processing modules, laser power, and options such as drop removal and inline inspection. The Scoreline module covers easy-open scoring on a pouch-making machine you already run; MicroLam covers narrow webs to 350 mm.

Is there a FocusPro for a mid-web line?

Yes — FocusPro is built in a 600 mm web width for mid-web converters running roll-to-roll scoring, perforation, and contour cutting, with drop removal, on the same LaserSharp® modules and control as the 1,000 to 1,800 mm machines. Narrow webs to 350 mm run on MicroLam; widths beyond 1,800 mm are quoted as custom equipment.

What does a changeover between SKUs involve?

Opening the next product's recipe in LightGuide® — its artwork, laser settings, and registration. There is no die to change. With a vision option, a barcode printed on the web can select the next job by itself, so mixed SKUs run off one roll without stopping the line.

How do we confirm the process works on our film before committing?

Send 300 m (1,000 ft) of your material to the PhotonX lab. We run it, return processed samples, and provide a written process report covering parameters, edge quality, and achievable line speed.
